This weeks meeting

Braintree Moose Lodge, 175 W Howard St, Braintree, MA 02184 in the event room in the rear of the building. Pre-opening starts at 6:30PM, opening ceremony at 7PM and closing ceremony with announcements at 8:15PM

  • Adult Leader Training Opportunities
    • Wood Badge – April 12-14 AND May 18-19 2024 being run by Spirit of Adventure Council to our north. Details to come on this but the Troop Committee is likely to subsidize your registration cost if you are willing to complete this valuable adult leader training. 
  • Summer Camp 2024 – August 10-17 at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation
    • We are working out the finer details but we will be returning to TVSR for Summer Camp this year! Save the dates, we hope you will all be joining us. 
  • Storage Container Update –
    • We have secured a new home for our storage container, the Sons of Italy in Weymouth. A big Tanks-A-Lot! to the Sons and especially to Eagle #75 for helping us make this connection
    • Very soon, we will need to move the container from the St Thomas More property. This may come on short notice. We will need to unpack the container, load the contents onto trailers and vehicles in order for the container to be moved, then we will need to unload and pack the container at it’s new home.
      • We will need help with this. A lot of help!
    • Once the container is moved and the weather allows, we have committed to painting the container. We will need help for this as well, both Scout and adult help. Any work that requires use of a ladder will require adults. 
    • We are planning for Saturday March 30th and/or Saturday April 6th for the unloading of the container. 
  • Troop Winter Hats Have Arrived – Pick Up next Monday (not available on 3/18)
    • Please be sure you paid for your pre-ordered hats. $12 either in cash or send Venmo to Carolyn. 
    • Additional hats are available for purchase at the same price. 
  • March Swim Night – Wednesday, March 27th from 7-8 PM 
    • Connell Memorial Swimming Pool 220 Broad St, Weymouth
    • Tanks-a-Lot! to Ryan Hawker for making the arrangements with the pool.
  • SAVE THE DATE – Saturday, July 13th at 11AM 
    • A big Troop 19 “Tanks-A-Lot!” to Reem for setting up an opportunity for us to visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. More details will be coming but you won’t want to miss this!

Hey Troop 19,

We will meet tomorrow at the Moose lodge for the third night of merit badge month. If you missed last week, don’t worry, you can get caught up on what you missed.

SCOUTS BELOW THE RANK OF FIRST CLASS – Please bring your Scout Handbook to the meeting tomorrow and hand it to either Josh Murray or Sam Goldman as soon as you arrive. We need to update the online records! 

If you missed the signup deadline for the Klondike Derby, you can still sign up but the registration fee has increased by $5 for both adults ($17 now) and Scouts ($30 now). 

We are also starting to take sign ups for the February campout at Nobscot. 

Here’s everything going on:

  • Gone Home – Beverly “Bev” (McAndrews) Rhoades passed away on Friday
    • She was the mother of Eagle #14 Russell McAndrews and grandmother of Eagle #99 Ryan McAndrews. Bev was the recipient of the Troop 19 Bronze Arrowhead award, recognizing adults who have given exceptional support, above and beyond any reasonable expectation, in 1981.

Weekly Update 4/9

Hey Troop 19,

We will meet tomorrow at the Moose Lodge. This is the second night of our monthly program focused on disabilities awareness and adaptive activities and we have a special guest joining us this week! 

This Wednesday night is also Gym Night at First Church and you do not want to miss the activities we are doing this month! 

We can extend signups for the Isaac Davis Camporee through this Monday night, so this is really your last call to sign up. 

On Saturday, April 29th we are heading down to Camp Squanto for the day to provide helpful service to the camp. You will be fed lunch. You should wear your Class B uniform (at least the shirt and hat) and should bring work gloves. This is an opportunity for both SCOUTS and ADULTS to participate, including some work tasks that can only be performed by adults. We will take informal sign ups starting Monday so we know how many people we are bringing with us.

Weekly Update 3/26

Hey Troop 19,

We will meet tomorrow at the Moose Lodge. Wear your CLASS B uniform this week! If you don’t know what that is or you want to purchase a Class B t-shirt, see below! 

Tomorrow, we will be learning how to use a fire extinguisher! 

We have a couple of special Troop 19 apparel items we will be ordering NEXT WEEK. If you want to join our order, we need your commitment by NEXT MONDAY NIGHT. Details below & attached fliers. To order either, just tell ME right away. Email, text, hand me a handwritten note, as long as I know who and how many! 

Be sure to be planning to attend the April Gym Night, you won’t want to miss out on what we are planning! 

Have you signed up for the Isaac Davis camporee yet? What are you waiting for? The deadline is APRIL 3rd to sign up! That’s next Monday night! There’s only 9 of us signed up so far?! 

Weekly Update 3/5

Hey Troop 19,

We will meet tomorrow night at the Moose Lodge for a return to the “work with your hands” monthly theme! If you have your own safety glasses, please bring them.

Gym Night is on Wednesday at First Church! Bring a friend! We can help you complete FITNESS REQUIREMENTS at Gym Night! 

Our friends from Pack 19 have invited our Scouts to participate in their Pinewood Derby (date TBA), so if you want to participate, build a car! The first workshop already happened but there is another car workshop at the Moose Lodge tomorrow from 5:45-6:30 PM. 

Are you coming to the March campout? It is THIS COMING WEEKEND Sign up now! You must sign up by tomorrow night, we will be figuring out carpooling at the Troop meeting tomorrow. THE CURRENT SIGNUPS ARE LISTED DOWN BELOW – Is your name on this list?

We are also taking sign ups for the April campout, the Isaac Davis Camporee & historic hike. Sign up by April 3rd so we can properly plan for this special campout! 

Adults, I want you to become “Trained” for your leadership position! Committee Members can complete their training in about 90 minutes completely online. Assistant Scoutmasters must take a similar online training AND an overnight Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) training; Committee Members are welcome to take IOLS as well. These courses are FREE to YOU within our council as a result of the $36 “activity fee” each of our Scouts pays as part of their registration. And then there’s more training you can take after that, how about Wood Badge in the fall? See Adult Training Links for more info!!

• Any interest in attending the Red Sox Scouting Day game on April 30th?
o We do NOT yet have plans to attend this event but if you are interested, speak to your Patrol Leader or the Scoutmaster ASAP.
