Training

  • Adults, I want you to become “Trained” for your leadership position! Committee Members can complete their training in about 90 minutes completely online. Assistant Scoutmasters must take a similar online training AND an overnight Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) training

  • Adult Training – Are you “Trained” for your registered position? Why not? We can help you help our Scouts!
    • Less than 50% of our registered adult leaders are “Trained” for their position by BSA standards. Our Scouts deserve the best trained leadership possible!
    • Committee Members can complete their training in about 90 minutes completely online.
    • Assistant Scoutmasters must take a similar online training AND an overnight Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) training; Committee Members are welcome to take IOLS as well. These courses are FREE to YOU within our council as a result of the $36 “activity fee” each of our Scouts pays as part of their registration.
      • Each IOLS course has an evening MEETING prior to the weekend that you must attend.
    • And then there’s more training you can take after that, how about Wood Badge in the fall?
      • Wood Badge is an advanced adult leadership training course that you can take once you are “Trained” for your position. It is considered on-par with week-long corporate leadership development courses that your employer might pay thousands of dollars for you to take.
      • The Troop Committee is very interested in having our adult leaders complete Wood Badge this year and we would consider subsidizing the registration fee for our leaders to attend. Please talk to ME directly over the next month if you are interested.
      • Other training opportunities? How about getting certified for CPR/AED and First Aid? Our Council offers courses regularly, or you can find your own class to take. If you are an active Troop leader that already has these certifications, please send a copy of your training card(s) to me so we can have them on file. See attached flier for upcoming CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid courses offered through our Mayflower Council. You can find registration for these on the Council training calendar.
      • The Council training calendar is here: Mayflower Council Training Events Calendar
      • ADULT LEADERS who are actively participating in camping and other outdoor Troop activities should have current HAZARDOUS WEATHER training available on the BSA online training website. This only takes around 31 minutes to complete and expires after 2 years.
